While EDR solutions are designed to monitor endpoint activities and behaviors to detect and respond to security incidents, EDR alone cannot provide organization-wide threat detection due to its sole focus on the endpoint. EDR offers visibility into network traffic of devices using endpoint security agents. Many devices that typically do not run agents can be blind spots, these include internet of things (IoT), bring your own device (BYOD), industrial control systems (ICS), network devices, cloud services and more. Coined by Palo Alto Networks, eXtended Detection and Response (XDR) emerged as a new approach to EDR solutions that breaks down traditional security silos, to deliver detection and response across all data sources.

Network Transformation: AI-Driven Approach to Network Security - Enabling Digital Transformation with a Zero Trust

Gopesh Maindola, Principal Architect – Zero Trust & SASE, Palo Alto Networks

In today's rapidly evolving threat landscape, traditional network security measures are no longer adequate to protect organisations against sophisticated attacks.

With the rise of cloud computing, remote work, and IoT devices, the perimeter-based security approach is becoming obsolete. This presentation delves into the shortcomings of conventional network security models in mitigating emerging threats and emphasizes the need for a paradigm shift towards Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA).

We will explore how Zero Trust principles challenge the traditional notion of trust within networks by assuming that all network traffic, both internal and external, is untrusted until verified.By adopting a Zero Trust approach, organisations can establish granular access controls, continuous monitoring, and least privilege access policies to safeguard their critical assets against modern threats such as ransomware, insider threats, and zero-day exploits.

By the end of the presentation, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the limitations of traditional network security approaches in addressing new threats and the critical role of Zero Trust Architecture in enabling organisations to adapt to the evolving threat landscape effectively.

Moreover, they will leave with actionable strategies and best practices for embarking on their journey towards a next-generation network security transformation powered by Zero Trust principles.
